Good afternoon Dust community,
I am demens grimwulff, and I am posting my intent to run for CPM2. After a discussion with members of my corporation and those that I know, I have decided to take the dive to help the community, and the game that I have loved. First, let me introduce myself to those who do not know me, and what I have done in the game:
- Character started in May of 2013 (had an account prior to this, but played only a little bit) - Was public relations director of A.N.O.N.Y.M.O.U.S and dealt with all of the major corporations at that time - Was on ANON's 3rd place squad cup team - Member of Ancient Exiles during the Prof 5 war - Joined Immortal Guides to help train new players in the game after IRL took over - Joined HVLP for the 'Big Blue Doughnut', but left the game after major balancing problems made it not fun to play - I still played the game occasionally, as I never fell out of love with it, but I am back, now - I have been a PC FC for ANON, HVLP, and, now, NF, and I know the ins-and-outs of the game quite well - I have performed all roles in the game and I have played every suit, used every weapon, and I have tried to tank/ADS (albeit, unsuccessfully) across my 4 characters (I have 3 prototyping alts I use to test everything that is released/changed)
- IRL, I was a math major in college (I am a numbers guy, and will help express all player ideas with numbers to back them to Rattati) - I work as a chemist in a laboratory and I am quite familiar with N.D.A.s, and industrial secrets/knowledge - Due to my job and my education, I bring a very analytical, structured approach to the game and the mechanics, analyzing all sides of the issue before approaching it for a fix - I have led a team of 30 individuals in a lab that performs over 100 jobs daily, and over 2000 individual tests, giving me the ability to take in a lot of different information, and come to accurate conclusions while still maintaining workflow
Now, that I have gotten all of that out of the way, here is my platform:
1) I will work with CCP to bring better racial parity to the game; current suit bonuses do not seem to accurately reflect the suits play styles, and the weapons that are used on them. I want there to be a reason to run a suit with their race's weapon, not because it is overpowered, but because it offers a unique benefit to that weapon 2) I will work with CCP and the other CPM to help improve the game for the shield users, as it has been sorely overlooked for some time now 3) I will work on increasing the available options for players in the game, including providing the commando suit a real role in the game, but to help expand the assault class at the same time 4) I feel we need the Logi LAVs and Drop Ships back; I think the playstyle of vehicles can be greatly expanded if we offer strategic alternatives on the field 5) Tanks, right now, are even worse than dropships... there are only a small handful of effective builds, and even fewer worthwhile PC/competitive fittings. Tankers need more options. I don't want Tank 514 again, but what I do want is a more diverse selection of modules that actually provide a real reason to use them, and will bring back what was, once, a thriving community of tankers who actually discussed optimal builds. 6) The Lagstillation (Gallente Research Facility) will be GONE from ALL playlists until an actual, workable solution can be put into the game that does not cause massive frame rate loss 7) I will, as is typical for me, urge a cautious, but quick upgrade path that involves massive user feedback, and will, at all possible times, include as much direct/indirect feedback in my posts and discussions with CCP as possible to urge a user focused progression path to the game, one that those who are most familiar with the game itself have input in the very progression of it, and its future. 8) PS4. Period. Dust needs it to survive, and I will try my hardest to get us there.
Those are the key points of my platform... of course, like anyone, I have opinions outside of those I have stated here. For any questions you may have, and want answered, please ask them. I humbly thank you for your time and consideration, and I wish that you keep me in mind for the upcoming CPM election.

Also, if anyone would like to chat with me on mic, as I feel a lot of information is lost in text, my typical playing time is from 7pm to 11pm (CST || 0100 to 0500 EVE) Monday through Friday, Sat/Sun I have off so I am randomly on through out the day, and I can be found in NF's public chat: Negative_Feedback . I will be available for squads, or to hold public conversation, as you see fit. Just send me a mail or poke at me in the chat, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Sadly, Aeon Amadi had to back out of the race due to an issue that has occurred. After discussion amongst the corporation tonight, I had several people ask me if I would run... as well, I feel like I should give back to the community in some way. I have tried, in the past, to do various things with and for the community, but I feel like my abilities of team management, and number crunching can be put to use to help progress this game to one that will compete in the next generation of consoles, as well as offer a viable alternative to the mass of copy-paste shooters that are thrown out there every year.

I potentially want to get into that field.
I am a petroleum chemist, except I work with the following equipment: Gas Chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and combustion IC. My specialty was metals analysis, but I was real good at GC, too, so they put me in charge of both.
GCS generally look for benzene, oxygen containing compounds (wt%), aromatics, and ppm lvl oxygen compounds ICP-OES looks for ppm level metals ICP-MS looks for ppt and ppb level metals Combustion IC looks for ppm level fluorides, chlorides, bromides, and nitrides

I played FFXIV for a while and I really liked the quarters you could design in that game... similar to this game, they were private (but could be made public) and could be decorated any way you wanted too... even including items from bosses you conquered. If moved to PS4, I would see about bringing something similar to this to the merc quarters... maybe with wall hangers that you could get, as a rare drop (1 per PC to a random on the winning team; can be traded), of the corp you beat with the banner all torn up and muddy.
As far as your request... we will see, lol, but I have a feeling the family atmosphere might override your request.

I knew your name seemed familiar! Actually I think it is telling that when he no longer had time for the end game, he joined a new player training Corp as an Instructor. He has a lot of relevant real life experience as well. Probably one of the most promising campaign posts I have read by a new candidate (someone who did not run for CPM1).
Thank you Fox. That is much appreciated. I wish I had more time to spend with you guys, as I really enjoy helping new people... this game has so much going on that it can be overwhelming for most, and I want to see everyone gain in potential.
If you are ever interested in splitting up 2 8 man teams, NF would be happy to split up 8 of our own, and get in a practice PC session to train your guys on skirm tactics. I will personally even flip the bill.

Her Chosen wrote:Sorry, but you flat out told me multiple times that you are just burning assets and not caring until the game dies...
This weekend? I will be honest, I did say that. A lot of the stuff going on behind the scenes was getting... frustrating. Not to get too personal with this post, but I had a couple of choices I needed to make, but sadly, by Sunday, regardless of my decisions, it made no difference. After discussing everything in depth with Illuminati, Silly Rabbit, and Kain Sunday morning, I changed my mind. Besides, my assets would have lasted quite a bit longer than I was letting on considering how infrequently I really run proto.
To be honest, my decision is to stay. I tried other games during the week, and nothing brings the same feels that this game does... or, for that matter, the community. There is one game I will play come November, but if I get CPM, on my word as a southerner, I will still dedicate a majority of my time to work for this community and to help change this game for the better. I promise that.
I hope this explanation has changed your mind on that, but I would understand if it doesnt. Besides... I could never leave this game, I love it way to much.

My friends... it wasn't just you who I came back for. Illuminati, you, Heim, Machine Guns (despite not seeing him much), Amadi, noobcaveman, Jolly Roger... everyone came back. To say that it was a single person that changed my mind would be a lie... and once I got on and saw all of the changes, I knew I couldn't leave again, at least not at this stage. The game has changed so much and has moved in a good direction... albeit, as a slightly less jaded vet than what I was when I came back, still not perfect. I want to put my time and effort in to improve that experience for everyone else.
Also, 4 months ago I had something that I no longer have... so my time is much more open.

I lost my grandfather several years ago, and he had alzheimers pretty severly. Some of the stuff he said and would do was... not received well by my mother or the rest of the family. That was a rough time for all of us. My grandmother has several issues, one of which is a steadily advancing dementia... it has been a pretty hard thing for my family to deal with, and we finally got it resolved just last weekend. It took us 6 months of moving things in and out and into storage and back into her house and back out again. Yea... I can sympathize for anyone who is or was in a position with a similar family member.

Starlight Burner wrote:Had my vote up till I saw the direct only stance to PS4 only.
Why PS4 only for future DUST?
Couple of reasons:
1) Sony and CCP have a standing relationship, which can be beneficial to both of CCP and us, the players 2) current gen consoles have a lower cost of entry than a comparable computer that could run Dust at the same resolution, quality settings, and frame rate 3) Initially, Dust was going to be on Xbox, but Microsoft wanted a % of everything... this would, in a long run, be extremely harmful to any future growth past this next move 4) PS4 and computers are not mutually exclusive; on games like FF14, PS4, PS3, and PC players inhabit the same world at the same time
I understand the desire to have Dust on a computer, but the market for FPS is much larger on a console; I feel it would be a waste if it was just on PC... the community would almost instantly shrink, versus grow on the PS4.
As I stated on Biomassed, if PC was the platform, I would still play it... but I think PS4 would be the best path of opportunity for the game.
Sorry if that one disagreement turns you off, but that is the conclusion that I have come too.

And I have no idea where test servers and performance came into this mix? Like, it was never mentioned in my posts. Ever. I'm starting to think you're arguing to argue and not actually reading any of the arguments being presented because you're now arguing information that wasn't even up for debate to begin with.
Also, what ninja nerfs..?
And again, saying that "they should have put it there to begin with" is an appeal to the game's origins, which obviously have not worked. Just because it started on a console doesn't mean it should stay there and that line gets really really fuzzy whenever you start using the same argument in other applications: It's a game based in New Eden, which started on PC - it should stay there. It's a game that started on the PS3, it should stay there.
And the whole "making promises to console they don't plan on keeping" is total bupkis. It isn't that they didn't plan to keep them it's that they simply -could not keep them-. The game doesn't run smoothly with the content it has, how can you honestly expect them to put -more- content in when what we have is already problematic..?
"Any argument against this fact can go **** itself, and you'll be borderline entering my hate list"
So, what you're saying is that it isn't a debate, or an argument, it's a rant. Got'cha. I'll stop responding then and let you continue on in your own little world. Could spend my time doing better things. Aeon, you seem to be missing one important piece of information. YOU'RE TALKING TO A ******* CONSOLE COMMUNITY ABOUT GETTING RID OF THERE CONSOLE GAME TO PORT IT TO PC, OR TELLING THEM WAIT BECAUSE PC MASTER RACE. You find that **** acceptable? Then yes, read my **** as a rant, because there's no arguing the fact we've been ****** with, and you support it. And ninja nerfs include changing the commando's CPU without changing the PG to make the suit make damn sense. And this games 'origins' has been the only reason you have a shot at CPM instead of going back to EvE because Dust was killed off by a community already tired of CCP through EvE.
Calm down... both of you.
The problem, Amadi, is the cost of entry into a viable PC is much, much higher than a PS4. Even paying for a cheap rig, you're looking at more than the cost of the PS4, alone. How am I being selfish for asking for something that would provide people with a cheaper cost of entry? A used PS4, right now, is $370... a similarly price pointed desktop, found here at Amazon for $217 without a monitor, won't even come with a graphics card capable of running the game at a steady fps:
Benchmark of the same graphics card, but in a laptop
The real telling thing, is the lower resolution, lowest game settings, and all of the games with unreal 3 engine (specifically, Bioshock Infinite, for one), average well below the necessary FPS (24) for a 'smooth' gaming experience
Assume you're spending more money, here @ $100 more than a PS4 ... the benchmarks are still, very bad:
BioShock Infinite 2013
low 1280x720 min 43.9 || avg 48.2 || max 55.7 med. 1366x768 min 26.1 || avg 28.3 || max 30.5 high 1366x768 min 21.6 || avg 23.5 || high 25.5 ultra 1920x1080 7.4 fps
All I am saying, is that the PS4 has the lowest barrier to play, provides the best performance vs cost for the player, and will allow CCP to maintain an already existing relationship with Sony. In fact, like I pointed out, there are games that do play cross-platform (i.e. FF14).
Now, as a counter argument:
1) How do you intend to keep people from hacking? There are commercially available software packages that CCP could purchase, but this is not cost-effective 2) How do you intend to keep the game alive in a flooded market, like Steam? Many many games exist, for free, on PC... much much more than PS4 3) How do you intend to level the playing field vs higher end systems? People already bring up the point that an SSD modified PS3 is "ez mode" Dust, but how about a PC with SSD, dual video cards, overclocked CPU, etc etc. People will be well into the match before those who bought an equally priced pc as I linked above, could even load the matches.

In short, let me put it this way:
Why do app makers prefer making apps on Apple products vs making apps for Androids?
Apple has a guaranteed, uniform structure. The hardware is identical across the whole platform, and the operating systems are, generally, the same.
Android has different hardware from phone to phone, and different versions of operating systems.
The cost to develop a stable app across all of android is more programming intensive.
CCP would have to make sure the game is QC'ed across many, many variations, which would take up a lot of resources and time. PS4 would guarantee all hardware is the same across all players, making it easier for CCP to develop the game for a stable experience across the whole player base.

In this case CCP would have to talk to Apple to do basically anything whereas Android they'd have free-reign to make, update, and sell their game as they please. Not to mention the fact that Apple would be taking a share of the profits, whereas android would not.
... and you completely missed the point of the analogy...

I am not the one getting bent out of shape. A discussion is necessary, but your strawman isn't.

Aeon Amadi wrote:How do you stop a console player from using a modded controller? We're facing that issue right now as it is. You can't. You can't stop hacking and you can't stop modded controllers or additional peripherals. When it comes to hacking, CCP does lifetime bans, so it isn't so much a proactive measure as a reactive measure. Sure, hacker'll ruin a couple of matches but when he's having to make a brand new account on a different IP address everyday, it just isn't practical or feasible - especially when he's not able to save SP in doing so. There is no longevity in it and therefore, ultimately pointless.
As to how you keep a game alive in a flooded market? Easy, you make it unique - you make it stand out. How do you think Five Nights At Freddy's, Depth, or Minecraft stood out from a flooded market? They thought outside the box and they provided players an experience that no other game has. An experience we've already laid the foundation for with the Eve link. But it's a moot point anyway because that same flooded market never stopped games from taking off (Dota) -or- failing (Evolve). You can't predict how successful a game will be based solely on how many competing titles there are.
And the last point brought up is pretty simple: Start-up times. I mean, we have a warbarge prior to a battle for a reason. But if we're going to sit here and compare graphical capability all I can say is that is just the nature of PC gaming as a whole.
But this is pointless, ultimately. We could argue endlessly about the pros and cons about the PS4 and PC and what it'll eventually come down to is that everyone has their preference and that preference will always go against the other side of the fence. Someone is getting burned. Pure and simple. They're either going to have to adapt or get left behind. I could care less about which community gets burned, I'm only concerned about how long this game is going to last on either platform and a big factor in my preference is that we're going to be having this exact same debate when the PS5 is being developed.
Where to begin...
Modded controller is now equated to wall hacks, invincibility, lack of clipping, etc etc etc... yet, modded everything will be available for the pc user...
Yes, because this is comparable to modded controllers...
On a computer, an IP ban takes seconds to overcome... so I don't foresee that being a big deterrent... or, even, a MAC address ban, as MAC spoofing takes about the same amount of time.
Amadi... like I said, people already complain about the difference between SSD and HDD... do you think it will be on even playing ground when you're discussing hardware that is, literally, orders of magnitude different (hence, also, the apple analogy you missed).

I am not the one getting bent out of shape. A discussion is necessary, but your strawman isn't. No, a discussion is not necessary if it is going to come down to antagonizing people over personal preferences. Both the PC and the PS4 are excellent candidates for their respective reasons and ultimately it comes down to how much of a **** you give as to where we go with either. Yes, a PS4 is more cost effective, but it simply does not do nearly as much as a PC and you get what you pay for. In terms of Dust 514 and -only- Dust 514, that may be a good option, but for a game that is meant to be connected to Eve Online I see a great deal of potential in allowing players from both sides to partake in both sides of that universe. I like oranges and I like apples. I like the taste of oranges better but I'll eat either.
And that is what I am saying, just on a different level.
